Elizabeth is a Nationally Certified Counselor currently practicing in Boise, Idaho. She received her MS in community counseling at Western Carolina University near Asheville, NC and her BA in psychology from Drew University in Madison, NJ. She studied sociology, women’s studies, and literature at Oxford University in Oxford, England. She also worked on social justice projects at Georgetown University. Elizabeth’s philosophy in counseling is strength based, meaning she believes in the general goodness of each person, and that each person has potential and strengths individual to them and their life’s purpose. This includes her belief in you. Whatever it is that you are struggling with, no matter how desperate, lost, or hopeless life may feel, or how many mistakes you think you’ve made, you deserve support and the chance to allow yourself a new day, a fresh start. Elizabeth will provide you with the opportunity to share your story in a safe way, feel heard, and be encouraged and challenged to continue a unique journey of self discovery, growth, and healing. Elizabeth has been observing life from a therapeutic perspective since she was a child. Naturally inclined towards empathy, understanding, and creative insight partnered with a desire to help others directed her path into the counseling field where she has been for the past 10 years. Elizabeth has worked with a variety of populations, although mostly with troubled teens and their families. She has also worked with adults with severe mental health issues like schizophrenia, bipolar, and dual diagnoses. Some of the issues addressed in counseling have been abuse, grief and loss, depression, addictions, sexual offenses, attachment issues, adolescent at risk diagnoses (Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, ADD, ADHD, etc.), work and career related problems, parenting, divorce related parenting, relationships, personal empowerment, life purpose, and spirituality. In terms of counseling style, Elizabeth takes a non-judgmental and eclectic approach in order to meet you, the client, where you are, and adapt according to your personality and your needs from a holistic perspective - your whole person. Teaching and identifying irrational thoughts and using exercises to practice cognitive and behavioral change, homework assignments, reading, movies, music, journaling, and other activities may all be involved, again, depending upon your goals.
