Photo of Ellen Selby

Ellen is a Licensed School Counselor and is currently completing her Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, certification in the state of Texas. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling from Texas Christian University. After graduating, Ellen worked at the Brazos Valley MHMR as a Case Manager for the chronically mentally ill and mentally retarded. Following that experience, she was led to a career as an In-Home Trainer for autistic children in Mansfield, Texas where she worked with autistic children and their families. As an In-Home Trainer, she employed ABA methods to teach the children as well as assisting the families in coordinating with the schools and creating a home environment that would most enhance their relationship with their child/children. After working in this area of autism, Ellen felt compelled to join the school system as a teacher and worked first as the Autistic Behavior teacher and then as a school counselor. She has over 11 years experience working with children and adults as a mental health provider conducting training and providing resources as well as offering group and individual counseling in a wide variety of areas. Some of the areas within which she has experience include: anger management, autism training/information, behavioral issues, self esteem, social skills, separation and divorce, physically and sexually abused children, ADD/ADHD, anxiety, eating disorders, life skills training, grief and coping skills, depression, parenting skills, and family dynamics. In assisting individuals and families with some of the above concerns, she has used play therapy, solution focused therapy, behavioral therapy, art therapy, and reality therapy. Ellen believes strongly that “one cannot judge another until they have walked a mile in their shoes”. She is married with three children and enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
